Another year has come and gone at SDHS. Another group of seniors has graduated and gone out into our society to make a difference. The SDHS Alumni Association gave the 2018 graduates a free one-year membership to our organization. Our hope is that they don’t forget SDHS, will become life-long alumni association members and will keep up with SDHS events.
Here are just a few highlights about SDHS from last year. It started off with your SDHS Cavers football team going undefeated in the Central League for the first time in over 40 years. The fan support was overwhelming all the way to the CIF championship game. Sold-out home crowds helped make a difference to the team and the school as a whole. This success was followed up by your SDHS basketball team winning their league title and going to the State CIF Championship game. SDHS school spirit and pride are back.
The SDHS Foundation and its donors have done another great job of raising funds for scholarships for outgoing seniors. They raised over $100,000 to help the 2018 seniors further their education. You can read more about their efforts in this issue. If you would like to support their scholarship programs, a favorite school activity or athletic program contact the SDHS Foundation at www.sandiegohsfoundation.com to make a tax-deductible donation.
I want to congratulate this year's SDHS Alumni Association Wall of Honoree winners. The Wall of Honor recognizes outstanding SDHS alumni who have a history of leadership, community activities, and public service, just to name a few categories considered by the selection committee.
Congratulations to Robert Price, Tony and MaryAnn Hechanova,Doyle Steel, Gaspar Oliveira, Angie De Caro and Ben Holman. You can read more about this year’s inductees in this issue.
As we enter a new school year, I ask that you please consider joining the SDHS Alumni Association. You can do that by visiting sandiegohighschoolalumni.net. Our website is also a good resource for information on current school activities, sporting schedules, and class reunions. If you're looking for the contact person for your class, we may have some information for you.
By now you should have received a donation letter. We are asking our association members to help fund our operation. Your contribution will help pay for the office staff that answers your calls and sends out membership renewals. It will also help us fund school group activities during the school year like field trips, producing this newsletter, and planning alumni get-togethers like the Labor Day Weekend Padres game.
We also want to congratulate Mr. William Winchester from the class of 1941 for finally receiving his diploma during the graduation ceremony this past June. For more on this story go to our website.
On behalf of the SDHS Alumni Association, we hope everyone had a great summer. Go Cavers!
